This month marks the start of the implementation phase of a deal that has been in the making since officials from Summerside, a city on Canada's Prince Edward Island, met with representatives of Samsung C&T on a mission to Seoul in April 2016.
The aim of the mission, sponsored by the Canadian Embassy in Seoul and organised by Intralink, was to promote investment into Canada. Intralink planned and managed the event and identified the prospective Korean investors.
A year on, Samsung C&T’s Canadian subsidiary, Samsung Renewable Energy Inc., will install an 890kW battery system which will connect to Summerside's existing power network, and add an additional 495kW solar farm.
This event illustrates the importance of trade and investment missions as an effective tool for Economic Development Organisations. The Embassy of Canada in Korea entrusted Intralink with the task of building a list of Korean investors, securing their participation in the event, and organising one-to-one meetings.
Summerside’s Director of Economic Development, Mike Thususka said: “Intralink did an excellent job to ensure that my colleagues from PEI and Summerside did not waste any time during the event and were able to sit down with qualified decision-makers who had been properly briefed on our value proposition. As it turned out, our meeting with Samsung C&T was absolutely key.”
