Foreign Government Representative – FDI Manager, Singapore

You’ll work alongside a diverse group of 130+ business development consultants with a deep specialism in Asia. Over 34 years in the business, we’ve been instrumental in helping western Economic Development Offices (EDOs) attract investment from Asia. We’ve also helped more than 1,000 western tech startups and scaleups establish and grow in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Southeast Asia – generating upwards of $500 million in revenues for our clients.

The job

You’ll be working with our government clients from overseas.

You’ll be the on-the-ground representative of your client’s investment promotion office in Singapore, with the overarching goals of 1) attracting Southeast Asian foreign direct investment  (FDI), and 2) promoting awareness of your client’s region in Singapore & SE Asia.

You’ll be managing the entire investment cycle – from initial lead generation to outreach, negotiation, closing deals, and account management.

In your day-to-day, you’ll be identifying, meeting, pitching to and gathering crucial feedback from your client’s potential partners in SE Asia, developing a funnel and fine-tuning the market strategy.

When the time is right, you will arrange for your client to visit Singapore – supporting crucial visits from business & governmental delegations. You’ll be their local expert – taking them to meetings with prospective investors and partners, interpreting (where needed) and providing the incredibly important cultural context to business conversations.

You’ll be working closely with your client and providing them with key progress indicators in the form of meeting notes, reports, and sync calls.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead the overall efforts in Singapore by proactively engaging in 'hands-on' investment promotion, business development and government work on behalf of foreign EDOs
  • Identifying, contacting, meeting, and communicating clients’ value proposition to SE Asian target investors, partners and other stakeholders
  • Managing the whole overseas investment process from initial lead generation to negotiation and closing deals
  • Managing marketing activities in Singapore on behalf of your clients, including webinars, trade show representation and networking events
  • Planning, organizing and executing events with the purpose of attracting foreign direct investment (FDI)
  • Arranging and supporting visits from government and business delegations in Singapore, and the region 
  • Interpreting and acting as a liaison between foreign governments and prospective Singaporean/SE Asian investors
  • Reporting to clients via regular meeting notes and reports in English
  • Other related business development and administrative tasks

What you'll need

  • Excellent spoken and written English – to get complex ideas across from clients to prospective investors and vice versa
  • 5+ years’ experience in FDI/economic development/investment promotion/government or a related field – to bring your own flair to the job
  • Experience of building a initiative from the ground up, with demonstratable results
  • A thorough understanding of the Singaporean business environment – to identify the right companies and people to engage
  • An interest in technology, sustainability and international business – to operate within multi-tiered supply chains and with multiple stakeholders
  • Ideally but not essentially;
    • An interest and knack for tech – so you can hit the ground running when talking to prospective investors in the tech space
    • Regional experience beyond Singapore – so you can expand your target pool
    • Additional SE Asian language(s) – to engage more easily with overseas prospects
