Taiwan

With a population of 23 million and a per capita GDP to rival many European countries, Taiwan is an attractive market for western companies.

For the first time in 30 years, the island’s economy is growing faster on an annualised basis than that of mainland China. Domestic demand is strong, and electronic components, which form the lion’s share of Taiwanese exports, have benefited from strong global demand in the tech sector.

Taiwan is a global leader in the design and production of many products from semiconductors and laptop computers to advanced displays and next generation batteries. It is home to many global companies such as HTC, Acer, TSMC, MediaTek and Foxconn.

Intralink has had a permanent presence in Taiwan since 2007 and has helped many western companies develop and execute sales, licensing, distribution and partnership strategies in the market. From our offices in Taipei, we are also able to coordinate activities between ODMs in Taiwan, brand owners in Japan and Korea, and suppliers and contract manufacturers in mainland China.

Alex Barton

SVP, Managing Director

Alex leads our Southeast Asia and Taiwan teams, overseeing the delivery of our client projects in these markets. He’s developed and executed revenue-generating market entry strategies for clients, established partnerships and won ‘design-ins’ in the software, energy, medtech & life sciences, materials, and automotive fields. Originally from the UK and raised in Belgium, Alex has lived in Asia for over 15 years and is a fluent Mandarin speaker. He has a BA in Chinese studies, an MA in international business and an MBA.

Stewart Randall

Business Development, Taiwan

Stewart is Deputy Managing Director of Intralink’s China and Taiwan offices and is in charge of outbound business development, supporting Taiwanese businesses’ international expansion. He has led cross-border growth initiatives for clients in semiconductors, ICT, cleantech, telecommunications, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, and software; closing multiple sales and licensing deals for clients in these sectors. Stewart was born in the UK and is a fluent Mandarin speaker.

Steve Hsu

Project Director

Steve is the Taiwan Director for one of our major clients – The Arizona Commerce Authority. He spent 10+ years at ITRI, establishing its OpenLab & Incubation Center – Taiwan's first business accelerator. In a subsequent life, Steve created Taiwan's leading 'private board' organization, servicing local startups and government agencies, including the Ministry of Economic Affairs. He holds several roles as at non-profits and associations. Steve has a Masters in Finance from City University of New York, and a DBA Corporate Strategy from Shanghai.

Nikki Pong

Project Director

Nikki has close to two decades’ experience in both the public and private industry. She has spent most of her career in the ICT/semiconductor space, working for major Taiwanese players including Acer, Wistron and BenQ. Prior to joining Intralink, she headed up the State of New York’s Economic Development Office in Taipei. Nikki is the Taiwan Director for one of our major clients – Indiana Economic Development Corporation. She also helps our private sector clients with their Taiwan expansion.

Sam Lin

Project Director

Sam has 20+ years of experience in retail banking, investment, consultancy, and FDI. He serves as the APAC Director for one of our major clients – Choose New Jersey. He previously worked at ING Bank in Los Angeles and at ANZ Bank in Taipei, prior to leading MCSI's Taiwan index business. Before joining Intralink, Sam was the Investment Director at Austrade, focused on attracting FDI from Taiwan to Australia. He has a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California and an MBA. in Finance.

Sam Leng

Senior Project Manager

Sam enables western technology clients to grow their business in Taiwan and source capital from the country. He also helps western governments to attract Taiwanese FDI and has drafted specialist sector reports for government representative offices. Originally from Taiwan, he has spent his career working across Taiwan and the UK and was previously Science & Innovation Analyst for the British Trade & Cultural Office in Taipei, conducting market analyses and managing inbound investment missions. Sam's background is in IT, specialising in software development, testing services, hardware component design and manufacturing.

Sandy Lee

Project Manager

Sandy has a background in international trade, FDI and PR. She’s currently serving as the Deputy Director, Taiwan, for one of our major clients – the Arizona Commerce Authority. Sandy helps Taiwanese companies with their expansion to Arizona. She also drives exports to the Taiwanese market for Arizonan firms. Previously, Sandy was Trade Commissioner for Israel in Taipei, focusing on automotive, smart city, foodtech and consumer goods. She has a BSc in Public Health and an MBA from Clark University, Massachusetts.
